Youth Ministry

It seems that every time some survey is done in the Church about priorities, ministry and outreach to our youth is listed near the top. Whether this is our Catholic schools, or religious education for children or junior and senior high students, or collegians, there is a great desire and need for us to help our young people to know Jesus and the truth of the Catholic faith.

Why I Made a Pledge, and Why You Should Too

I have turned in my pledge to the Archdiocesan Capital Campaign and I would ask you to do so as well. One Faith, One Family, One Future in Christ is an Archdiocesan wide capital campaign that will devote some serious resources to help with many extraordinary needs in the Church of Northeast Kansas. I’m giving extra over the next 5 years because I believe in the cause and so I am going to make some sacrifices to help.

Back to School – Our Children Need You

As schools begin and collegians return to campus, we as a parish also return to a fuller schedule, and we too, will soon continue our religious education and formation programs for youth. This weekend after Masses, our Christian Formation Office Staff will be available to answer questions or address concerns, about our offerings for faith formation. Many people today ask, "Who needs God?" or "Who needs the Church?" While many people state that they believe in God and Jesus, their beliefs and lifestyles often do no match the beliefs and practices promoted by the Scriptures and the Church.

Hospitality and Evangelization

The theme of hospitality continues in the Gospel for today. Hospitality was listed as an essential quality for bishops in the New Testament. “The bishop must have an impeccable character ... he must be temperate, discreet and courteous, hospitable and a good teacher.” (1 Timothy 3:2 and Titus 1:8) Why? Because hospitality, or welcoming, is not merely being warm and friendly. It is a fundamental attribute of the Christian community.

Family Dynamics

The story of Martha and Mary in today’s Gospel is a wonderful description of family dynamics! This is a nice opportunity to have a good discussion as a family, about the importance of everyone’s responsibility for the happiness of family life. Is there a child who has ever lived, who has wanted to do chores around the house rather than play? Like certain commercials, is it sensible for a parent who has a crying hungry infant to say that they are going to take the day off from parenting?

It’s Written in the Heart

Moses said to the people: "If only you would heed the voice of the LORD, your God, and keep his commandments and statutes that are written in this book of the law, when you return to the LORD, your God, with all your heart and all your soul. For this command that I enjoin on you today is something very near to you, already in your mouths and in your hearts; you have only
to carry it out."

The Diversity of our Church - NAACUS

You might have noticed in the news or simply by driving around Olathe, that we are becoming a much more diverse community. Olathe is known as one of the best places in our country for millennials because of our economic opportunities, quality schools and lower average cost of living and because of our diversity of race. Our parish Pastoral Council as well as a special delegation that is preparing for our Archdiocesan Convocation on Evangelization has recently reviewed and discussed data about Olathe and Prince of Peace.
