Immaculate Heart School at C.N. Kota in India is located in a rural village in the southern state of Andrah Pradesh. The school was founded by Father Maraianand Mendem in order to serve the children in the region. Thanks to the many generous contributions from the parishioners of the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas, that the school was opened in 2010 with 300 students, and a school motto, “Be Lighted to Give Light.” It is not surprising that over the past 15 years God’s Blessings have become increasingly evident to the people of the area. Today there are over 1,100 students, with plans to add a junior college for young women, and a medical facility in the future. One concern of Father’s was how to carry forward the good works of the school for decades to come. After all, the school is located in an under-served area of the country, where life is harsh, water and electricity scarce, and roads are unimproved. Few were willing to undertake the task. A miraculous solution occurred when an order of nuns, the Catechist Sisters of Saint Ann, visited the school and agreed to take over the administration. Founded in 1914, by Father Silvio Pasquali, the congregation’s philosophy was right in line with that of the school; including their motto: “Spread the Light of Christ” and focus on evangelization, education, healing and human empowerment. In order to accommodate the sisters a convent has been constructed, but funds will be needed going forward. Your support is greatly appreciated in this mission work.
